After waking up in the morning and before starting to think about the day, take a few moments to breath and feel the stillness of your mind and body. Try to remember the dreamworld you were just experiencing. It’s a great way to start the day and it can help you to become more present in your dreams… which can eventually lead to lucid dreaming.

We know that our dreams are just ways we have of telling ourselves about ourselves when we are asleep, and yet we have learned to keep from ourselves so much of who we fully, truly are that our dreams seem strange. Amazing, isn’t it? What we tell ourselves about ourselves must be told with so much secrecy and arcane symbolism that we can’t remember it, and if we can, we can’t understand it. At such moments our inner world seems shrouded, muted, alienated, as the natural world seems when it is covered with snow.

Isn’t it sad to realize that we have learned not to accept who we fully are? And isn’t it wonderful to remember that gradually, with courage, we can come to accept and include even what at first had appeared so strange, so horrible, so not-me in our dreams?

Explore your world

Imagine that you are walking around and all of the sudden you realize that you are in the middle of a dream. Waves of energy pulse through your body while you look around this mindscape as you imagine all of the potential. A very surreal feeling to say the least. This isn’t a concept. This is something that can actually be experienced. In fact it is something that we can practice. Eventually an experience that can occur on a regular basis. This is Lucid Dreaming.

Imagine a place where you can consciously work on things that you want to improve, whether it be sports, music, public speaking, relationships, even flying! Your imagination is the only limit. Imagine a place where you can explore this world, other worlds, your subconscious, imaginary places. A place where you can do things that you can’t do in the “real world”. Like mind over matter, walking through solid objects, flying at incredible speeds through mountain ranges, star fields, and microscopic worlds.  A place where you can defy the schemas of the physics…

This is a blog post I wrote years ago. It’s interesting for me to go back and see where I was at different points in life.

I used to think that I was David experiencing life. Now I feel that I am Life experiencing David.

The more and more I sit back and witness the unfolding experience of this character named David, the less and less I am identified with his mind. For so long, my experience was the view that David’s mind projected on the day to day. I am starting to realize that this is a very limited way to see the world. Everything that is perceived through the filter of mind is based on past experience, conditioning, etc. and ultimately leads to a very biased and subjective view on the world. The more I am able to watch the mind, emotions, and impulses, the more I realize that David is just one of countless many manifestations, or another character of consciousness in this vast universe. Not too much different than any other living being “out there”…

Inward Eye

You can indeed be aware of your body, but you can also be aware of your mind - you can right now notice all the thoughts and ideas and images floating in front of the mind’s inward eye. You can, in other words, experience your mind, be aware of your mind. And it’s very important to experience your mind directly, cleanly, intensely, because only by bringing awareness to the mind can you begin to transcend the mind and be free of its limitations.
